- What do I need to use BetaWEB?
You only need access to the Internet. If you can get to the Internet, you can
get to the BetaWEB. If you don't have the Internet at home, you can get to it
from your local public library, school resource center, computer lab, even your
friend's computer. Remember, your personal ID and Password unlocks your private area. So,
no matter what computer you are using, your area is always private!
- What's included in my BetaWEB subscription?
Your subscription includes 100% of everything found in the BetaWEB. Use any of the
services as often as you like, whenever you like. Unlimited use, whenever you want.
If you are a Junior Beta, your subscription lasts until you have finished the 9th grade.
If you are a Senior Beta, your subscription lasts until you have completed your first year of
college.
If you were one of the several thousand who paid for a BetaWEB subscription last year, you
will receive a free subscription for as long as there is a BetaWEB!
- I can't seem to "log in" to the BetaWEB.
You can only log in when your ID and Password are both correctly entered.
Make certain your "CAPSLOCK" key is OFF. Are you certain you are using your
correct ID/Password? In cases where you have lost your ID, or we have determined you have broken
BetaWEB Rules and we have disabled the account, you will
need to call one of the numbers listed below.
- I have lost my ID or Password.
You will need to call the National Beta Club at (864) 583-4553 during normal business hours M-F (9-5 E.S.T) ~or~ you
may E-Mail us.
We generally do not give out passwords over the phone.
- I don't have a narrow menu bar across the top of my screen.
You have an old browser. To get the most out of the BetaWeb,
may we suggest you upgrade to a new version of your browser. It's very easy. Either:
- Download FREE
~or~
(be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for the download and read the installation
instructions).
to have us mail you (by next-day mail) a CD with the latest copies of Netscape and
Explorer plus about $250 worth of other great net software for $19.00 (that includes the shipping).
- What is this "narrow menu bar" across the top of my screen?
That's called a "navigation bar". No matter where you are in BetaWeb, you can
always click on one of the choices on the "navigation bar" and instantly "jump" to that page.
So, you're never lost.
- How do I return "Back" to a previous page? (without using my "navigation bar")
All browsers keep a "history" of where you have been. To go "Back" to the last screen,
you simply need to tell your browser to go back one step in the "history". This is how it's
done:
Your browser has a [BACK] button (usually located at upper left of your screen).
Each click of the [BACK] button takes you back one Page in the "history" of where you have
been. In addition to the [BACK] button, most browsers also have a [GO] menu option
(usually located at the very top of your screen) that can be accessed by holding down the
key and pressing the key () that allows you to move "Back" or "Forward"
through your "history".
- Why is the Internet often so slow!
Obviously, the faster your modem speed, the faster your access. However, many other
factors play into how fast pages appear. For example, the time of day (there are far
more people using Internet resources in the evening than during the day), a site with more
graphics will take longer to download, some sites limit the number of
visitors, etc, etc.
However, there is something you can do to make the BetaWEB a bit faster.
Try selecting the "TEXT" option on the narrow menu bar.
